Playing Against Yourself – Master Your Skills

The game of golf is a superb social sport; there is nothing quite like hitting the course with your favourite foursome or getting paired up with strangers who become friends by the end of your round. A beautiful sunny day and a couple of cold ones can be the icing on the cake for a great summer afternoon.

Whether you are new to the game or have been playing for years, one thing always remains the same; no matter the people you are playing with, you are still only playing against yourself!

Newcomers to golf often assume the sport is highly competitive because their only exposure to the game beforehand is usually major competitions on TV. As much as we would all love to claim we are the next Tiger Woods or Annika Sorenstam, that’s, unfortunately, not the case.

Truth be told, most golfers don’t actually pay much attention to the scores of the other players they’re on the course with. You are simply competing with yourself, one hole at a time, one round at a time.

Golf, however, is one of those most complex and challenging sports out there, and it can bring out the best and worst of the player’s mindset. Similar to the game of chess, golfers must plan each move, making decisions that allow them to improve their performance along the way. For this to be achieved, a golfer needs to have an understanding of their strengths and weaknesses on the course, certain types of shots, and club distances.

More serious golfers can often be found at the driving range to improve their skills for the next round, but with so much preparation necessary to further your game along, it is natural to become frustrated when things feel as though they just aren’t going your way. This is likely the reason most literature available about the sport concentrates on how to focus your mindset to improve your game.

GolfZone is specifically designed with all skill levels in mind and is the perfect place to practice your swing before you hit the course or an excellent choice for a fun-filled outing. Our Golfzon Vision simulators allow you to learn your club distances with incredible accuracy while also providing you with tangible evidence of your improvement the more you play!

Our Golfzon Technology also offers each player the opportunity to play according to their skill level on the same course. So, while you may only be playing your second ever game, but your partner is an avid golfer, we can accommodate both golfers’ abilities. And, when you play at GolfZone, our staff have the knowledge to suggest courses that cater to advanced or more beginner skill levels, if needed.

The most important thing to remember is that no matter how often or how little you play, you are the only person on the tee-box that you need to compete against!
